ParticipantBlizzCon 2026 is almost here, and Diablo fans have plenty to discuss before Blizzard takes the stage in Anaheim. The franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary, while new promotional material, rumors, data-mined information, and mysterious images have created intense speculation about what could be announced next. Players who have been preparing their characters and collecting D4 items will want to keep an eye on the event, especially because Baal, a possible “Reign of Destruction” project, and a rumored new class have all become major talking points.
Could Baal Return to Sanctuary?
The biggest rumor currently surrounding Diablo is the possible return of Baal, the Lord of Destruction. Several images circulating online reportedly reference “Reign of Destruction,” immediately bringing back memories of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. Although some of these materials have appeared on Chinese websites and other online sources, their authenticity has not been confirmed.
At the same time, Blizzard has released official anniversary content that has made the community even more curious. Some promotional images appear to place Baal in a prominent position, while the latest 30th-anniversary trailer contains multiple references to Diablo II. None of these details officially confirms that Baal will become the next major antagonist, but they have certainly increased speculation.
There are also discussions about Diablo lore potentially focusing on the Lord of Destruction before Diablo himself returns to the center of the story. If Blizzard is planning a major expansion around Baal, the “Reign of Destruction” name would be a natural connection to the franchise’s history. For now, however, players will have to wait for an official announcement.
The Mysterious Gun-Wielding Class
Another major rumor involves a possible new class. Images circulating online appear to show a character resembling a Demon Hunter or Witch Hunter, equipped with a gun and a hand crossbow. This has led to theories that Diablo could introduce firearms or a new ranged class in a future expansion.
The problem is that the images are highly questionable. Some members of the community have already suggested that they could be AI-generated rather than genuine Blizzard material. While that does not completely rule out the possibility of a gun-based class, there is currently no official evidence confirming it.
Interestingly, earlier data mining has reportedly uncovered references to hand crossbows and other potentially relevant systems. There have also been discoveries connected to movement mechanics and possible changes involving the Cow Level. These findings are worth watching, but data-mined assets can change or be removed during development and should not be treated as confirmation of future content.
What Could Blizzard Reveal at BlizzCon?
The main stage is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PT, with the opening ceremony followed by several developer presentations. One particularly interesting developer update is expected to involve the broader Diablo development team rather than focusing exclusively on Diablo 4.
That leaves room for announcements covering different parts of the franchise. Diablo II could receive new information, while fans may also wonder whether Diablo III could receive some kind of remastered treatment. There has even been speculation about a Diablo movie or Netflix series, although there is currently no confirmed announcement regarding either project.
Another panel worth watching is “Art of Darkness,” which focuses on the creation of Diablo 4 cinematics. Blizzard’s cinematics have always been an important part of the franchise, and a behind-the-scenes presentation could offer fans a closer look at how these scenes are produced. While some players have connected this panel to potential film or television projects, such connections remain speculation.
Diablo 4’s Upcoming Content
The following day includes a dedicated Diablo 4 panel, which could be particularly important because the next season is scheduled to begin shortly after BlizzCon. Players may therefore receive information about upcoming features, balance adjustments, seasonal content, and other changes.
A presentation covering upcoming content and features should provide much more reliable information than the current leaks. This could finally clarify whether the community’s theories about Baal, a new class, or other major developments have any basis.
Blizzard is also bringing a group of Diablo partner creators to the event. Different creators will cover Diablo II, Diablo Immortal, and Diablo 4, giving viewers multiple ways to follow the celebration. Twitch Drops are also expected to be available, allowing viewers to earn cosmetic or in-game rewards by watching participating streams. Players will need to connect their accounts correctly to receive the rewards.
A Major Moment for the Diablo Franchise
The 30th anniversary makes BlizzCon 2026 an important celebration for the entire Diablo franchise. The combination of official promotional material, Diablo II references, Baal imagery, data-mined discoveries, and the upcoming Diablo 4 presentation has created plenty of questions for the community.
For now, the “Reign of Destruction” project and the rumored gun-wielding class should be treated as possibilities rather than confirmed features. The official presentations will be the best source for determining which rumors are accurate and which are simply fan speculation.
Whether Blizzard reveals Baal, introduces a new class, announces major seasonal features, or surprises everyone with something completely different, the event should provide a clearer look at Diablo’s future. As the next season approaches, players can also prepare their characters, upgrade their builds, and gather enough buy Diablo IV Items to take advantage of whatever new challenges and opportunities arrive in Sanctuary.
