KeymasterThis is something I’ve been thinking about for a while.
A lot of people say “if there is love, everything else will fall into place.” But looking at relationships around me, I’m not sure that’s always true — especially here in Nigeria where there are real-life pressures.
You can truly love someone, but then issues start coming in:
Money problems
Different life goals
Family expectations
Distance
Lack of communicationAnd before you know it, the relationship becomes stressful.
I’ve seen situations where two people clearly love each other, but they still break up because things just aren’t working practically.
💔 Love vs Reality
Love is important, no doubt. It’s what brings people together in the first place.
But is it enough to sustain a relationship long-term?
For example:
Can love survive constant financial struggles?
Can love fix trust issues?
Can love alone handle long-distance relationships? These are real questions people face every day.
💰 The Money Factor
Let’s be honest — money plays a big role in relationships in Nigeria.
It affects:
Dates and lifestyle
Respect in some cases
Future planningSome people say love shouldn’t depend on money, but in reality, lack of money causes a lot of relationship problems.
🧠 Communication and Understanding
Another thing people underestimate is communication.
Two people can love each other but still:
Misunderstand themselves
Argue constantly
Feel unheardWithout proper communication, even strong feelings can fade.
👨👩👧 External Pressure
Sometimes, it’s not even the couple — it’s people around them.
Family opinions
Friends’ influence
Society expectationsAll these can put pressure on a relationship.
💡 So, What Really Makes a Relationship Work?
From what I’ve seen, love is just one part of the equation.
Other important things include:
Respect
Communication
Financial stability (to some extent)
Shared goals
Patience
📌 Final ThoughtsLove is powerful, but it might not be enough on its own.
A relationship needs effort, understanding, and sometimes sacrifices from both sides.
